Ranpur, May 25: Resentment is brewing among the residents here as rotten eggs and substandard food is served to children in several Anganwadi centres under this block of Nayagarh district.
A case in point is the Jhadpada Anganwadi centre (1) in Mayurajhalia gram panchayat. The villagers were Saturday informed that the children were given rotten eggs at the centre. Following this, they reached the centre and seized the eggs. The villagers immediately apprised the Ranpur child development project officer (CDPO) of the matter, but she allegedly did not act on their complaint.
When contacted, CDPO Brahmatri Mishra said she was unaware of the matter. If she receives a complaint on the issue, she would take action, Mishra claimed.
The villagers had taken up the matter with the authorities concerned on several occasions, but in vain. Even though supervisors have been appointed to visit the Anganwadi centres at regular intervals, their visits are only on paper, the villagers alleged.
A total of 318 Anganwadi centres are running in the block, but the children have been deprived of nutritious food as prescribed by norms which mandate each child should be given nutritious food along with eight boiled eggs per month.
