Berhampur: A bridge over Ambakhala nullah at Buguda in Ganjam district caved in Tuesday night, disrupting traffic on the road connecting Berhampur and Nayagarh. The bridge collapsed about 15-feet deep, but there was no casualty.
The reason for the collapse is yet to be ascertained. According to the locals, the bridge was 50-years-old and maintenance was overdue.
As the road is the only convenient route connecting Berhampur and Nayagarh, the collapse resulted in disruption of road communication. A large number of vehicles were seen stranded on both ends of the collapsed bridge.
“We are stuck for the last couple of hours. No official has reached the spot as yet, either for an inspection or for making alternative arrangements,” a driver complained.
