New Delhi: The Central Election Committee of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Friday announced its candidates for seven Lok Sabha and 20 Assembly constituencies for the third and fourth phase elections in the state.
Earlier, the party had announced the candidates for three Lok Sabha and five Assembly constituencies in the state. The Congress has nominated new faces for most of the seats. Except for the Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat, the Congress nominated six newcomers for different seats. Similarly, the party had re-nominated only three candidates in the Assembly segment, Patkura, Bhograi and Sukinda, and given tickets to fresh faces for 17 seats. The party has also nominated two women candidates among the seven Lok Sabha nominees.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik’s son Navajyoti will be contesting from Balasore, while party spokesperson in Odisha, Satya Prakash Nayak, will contest the Puri seat. Senior Congress leader Anant Sethi’s daughter Madhumita Sethi has been nominated for Bhadrak Lok Sabha seat. Sources said Anant Sethi too would contest from Soro Assembly seat.
The Congress has entered into an alliance with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in Mayurbhanj and the CPI (M) in Bhubaneswar.
The party is yet to release candidates for three Lok Sabha seats namely, Cuttack, Jajpur and Sambhalpur.
