Ganjam: Acting on a tip-off, forest officials recovered the carcass of a dolphin at a place between Podampeta and Bateshwar sea beach near Kantiagad sea mouth in this district Wednesday.
The matter came to the fore after locals noticed the carcass lying on the sea beach and informed forest officials. The dead mammal weighing over 60-70 kg was six feet in length, forest officials said.
The reason behind the mammal’s death is yet to be known while the actual reason could be ascertained only after a post-mortem is conducted on the carcass, Khallikote divisional forest officer (DFO) Dillip Kumar Martha said.
Sources said forest officials had recovered the carcass of a large whale of 42 feet in length lying on the beach. However, they hurriedly buried the carcass on the beach giving rise to doubts in people’s mind.
