Bhadrak: A pall of gloom descended on Nuagaon village under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak district after an elderly woman and her two minor granddaughters met a watery grave while taking bath in a pond Friday noon.
The deceased has been identified as Muli Mallick, her granddaughters Anjana (11) and Srabani (9).
According to sources, the minor sisters drowned in a nearby pond after they accidentally slipped into the deep waters when they were collecting greens on the bank. Their grandmother who spotted the duo battling for life in the pond dived in to rescue them. However, all of them were swept away in the pond.
Villagers who spotted their lifeless bodies floating in the water body fished out the bodies.
On being informed, Tihidi police reached the spot and seized the bodies. A case of unnatural death was registered and the bodies were sent to autopsy.
