Cuttack: The body of a Class XI student, who was missing for the last two days, was fished out from River Mahanadi here Friday.
Police said Nisith Mohanty (18) of CDA area was reportedly missing since Wednesday. After two days of frantic search his body was seen floating near Seashore ghat of the river.
The body was identified after retrieving his bag and identity card lying in the nearby river bank, police said adding that no injury mark was found on the body.
Nisith was a science student of DAV School in Bidanasi here. He was a meritorious student and a good chess player.
Nisith’s father Nihar Ranjan Mohanty had lodged a complaint with Badambadi police when the former did not return home after attending his coaching class at Pithapur area.
“I dropped Nisith at his coaching centre at 7am. When I went to the coaching centre to pick him at 12pm, the teacher told me that he had left the centre at 8am. Although I conducted a thorough search, I could not trace him,” Mohanty had said.
Nisith was among the two minors whose mysterious disappearance in two days had shaken the Silver City. Mahesh Kumar Sahu (14) alias Kanha, a Class VIII student of SCB Medical College and Hospital public school, had also gone missing Tuesday evening.
However, Mangalabag police rescued Kanha from Puri Wednesday. “He unwittingly had gone to Puri on his bicycle and a man after finding him contacted Mangalabag police. A police team then rushed to Puri and brought him back. PNN
