Bhubaneswar: A Nigerian national was arrested by Chandrasekharpur police Saturday on charges of holding a fake passport.
The accused identified as Amadi Victor Blaze,43, is a resident of Abo Uzagaba Ikeduru (LGA) Ima state of Nigeria. He has been staying at Nala Supara of Mira road in Mumbai.
Narcotics department sleuths Saturday intercepted Blaze at Bhubaneswar Railway Station on suspicion of carrying drugs with him. Although the sleuths failed to find any illegal substance from him, they came to know during search that Blaze has been staying in India on a fake passport. The narcotics officials handed over Blaze to Chandrasekharpur police who registered a case (CS No. 334/18) under sections 419, 467, 468, 471 of IPC, section 12 of the Indian Passport Act, 1967 and section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
He was sent to judicial custody after being produced in the court. In a survey, the Narcotics department found involvement of Nigerians 40 per cent of cases wherein foreigners were arrested in connection with illegal drugs trade in the country in 2017.
