Balasore, Jan 12: In a major breakthrough, Industrial police busted an inter-district racket involved in temple loot cases by arresting eight persons including four traders Tuesday. Police also recovered gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh from their possession.
Balasore superintendent of police Niti Sekhar stated that Rabindra Das, a grocer of Angargadia area had lodged a complaint with the police about theft from his shop January 2.
Police registered a case and started an investigation. Rajesh Sahu (23) of Jhagadpadi and Dillip Panda of Kendrapara were detained by the police as suspects.
During interrogation, they admitted to have stolen from various temples in Balasore, Bhadrak and Cuttack after forming a gang. The loot items were sold to some traders.
Two other looters of the gang and four traders—Manas Patra of Godhibasa, Kartik Sahu of Tinideha, Sushant Sahu of Udaynagar, Paresh Parida of Ganeswarpur, Paltu Samal of Sahadevakhunta and Kamala Lochan Kamila of Radhanagar were arrested.
Cuttack police took two looters and four traders into custody for further investigation. PNN
