Keonjhar: Tension ran high at Kushakala village under Bansapal block in this district Thursday following the death of a two-month-old baby boy after he was given vaccination shots Wednesday night.
The villagers have detained the auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM).
According to reports, Dasharath Dhangad and his wife Sakuntala had taken their baby to a nearby vaccination centre Wednesday.
Later the baby was given Paracetamol tablet when blood started oozing out of the vaccination spot and nose.
The baby died Wednesday night while sleeping, reports added.
Many locals questioned why Paracetamol tablet was given to the baby, but the family members alleged that the village ANM took such a decision.
Holding the ANM responsible for the baby’s death, the villagers reached her home and detained her, leading a tense situation there.
When contacted, chief district medical officer (CDMO) Dr S Gadnayak said a team has already been sent to the village. Action will be taken after receiving the probe report, he added.
