Berhampur: An elderly man was killed while another person suffered critical injuries Monday after being hit by a train while crossing the railway track at Haldiapadar near here in Ganjam district. The deceased, a person, aged approximately 58 years is yet to be identified. His body has been kept in a morgue and efforts are on to establish his identity, officials of Government Railway Police said.
The injured person has been identified as Chitrasen Nayak, 45 of Saranggarh village in Kandhamal district. Chitrasen and his neighbour Balakrushna Behera were waiting at the railway station here to board a train for Chennai along with their family members. Chitrasen and Balakrushna then went out of the station for some work.
While returning to the platform, where their families were waiting, Chitrasen got hit by the Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express. Luckily for him, the train had slowed down as it was approaching the station. GRP has registered two separate cases in this connection and further investigation is on, officials said.
