1 killed, 5 hurt in road mishaps

Koraput/Jharsuguda: A man was killed while five others sustained serious injuries in separate road mishaps at Koraput and Jharsuguda districts Wednesday.

In the first incident, three persons sustained critical injuries after a bean seeds-laden truck turned turtle near Peta ghati under Baipariguda block in Koraput district.

The mishap occurred when the vehicle was en route to New Delhi from Araku in Andhra Pradesh.

Though the exact reason behind the incident is not known, it is suspected that the driver lost control over the wheels while negotiating a curve. The three injured persons have been admitted to Jeypore district headquarters hospital (DHH).

Similarly, a man was killed while two others sustained critical injuries after a truck collided with another vehicle on National Highway-49 near Kantapalli area in Jharsuguda district.

The incident occurred while the truck was en route to Raipur in Chhattisgarh and the other vehicle was coming from the opposite direction. The vehicles had a head-on collision.

While the vehicle driver died on the spot, the truck truck driver and helper sustained injuries and were admitted to Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital (DHH).

Police reached the spot and seized the mangled vehicles.
