10, including 3 minors dead in separate drowning incidents

Shamli (UP): In a tragic incident, seven youths belonging to one family drowned Sunday in the swollen Yamuna River in Kairana in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said. Three bodies have been fished out out while divers are searching for the remaining four.

According to reports, the youths had entered the river to immerse the ashes after a religious event in their house. However, they waded into deep waters and apparently got caught in the swirling currents.

Senior police officials of the district have reached the site of the incident to supervise rescue operations. ASP Rajesh Srivastava said that since it had been several hours since the youths entered the river, all seven are feared dead. “We are trying to bring out the remaining four bodies at the earliest,” Srivastava informed.

In another tragic incident at Bihar’s Motihari three minor children drowned after their mother jumped into a pond with them. The woman, however, is still missing, police said and they have not ruled out her death. The incident occurred in Ekdari village under the jurisdiction of Chhauradano police station in East Champaran district said SHO Prabhakar Pathak.

The deceased have been identified as Nita Kumari (8), Roshni Kumari (5) and Archana Kumari (3). They were daughters of Gauri Shankar Yadav, a resident of Ekdari village.

Divers have been pressed into service to find out the mother’s body, the police official said. The incident occurred around 100 meters away from the deceased’s house.

The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained and police have launched a probe.
