Sambalpur: Hirakud Dam authorities Wednesday closed ten sluice gates to maintain the water level at the reservoir. At present, only 10 sluice gates have been kept open to release excess floodwater.
The current water level at the reservoir stands at 625.15 ft against the maximum storage capacity of 630 ft.
The average water inflow into the dam was measured at 2,52,017 cusecs while the outflow was measured at 1,80,451 cusec at noon Wednesday.
As many as 20 gates had been kept open Tuesday to drain excess flood water amidst heavy rains in the upper catchment area of Mahanadi.
Hirakud apart, the water level at Rengali dam is also rising. The water level at the dam was stood at 122.55 metres at 6:00 am in the morning against the maximum storage capacity of 123.50 metres. While 718.13 cubic metre per second (cumecs) water is entering into the dam, the outflow has been recorded at 535.57 cumecs at 6:00 am.
