11-day Bargarh Dhanu Yatra concludes

Bargarh: The annual Dhanu Jatra which kicked-off January 11 concluded here Monday.

Bargarh town which resembled mythological Mathura rejoiced the arrival of Lord Krishna accompanied by his brother Balaram at the invitation of King Kansa. The residents welcomed the mythical brothers by drawing rangolis and jhotis outside their houses and revering them as they passed through the streets.

Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda, Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) chairman Kishore Kumar Mohanty, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya and District Collector Indramani Tripathy attended the festival Sunday.

DIG (Northern range) Satyabrata Bhoi who attended the jatra said, “I pray to the almighty that the residents of Bargarh stay in peace. Besides, adequate police arrangements have been made to ensure that the festival passes off smoothly.”

During the 11-day theatrical enactment of the mythological tale of Lord Krishna, Bargarh town was adorned as Mathura Nagari, while Ambapalli got decked up as Gopapura to witness the ‘Krishna Leela.’
