11 villagers injured in jackal attack in Odisha’s Balasore district

Balasore: More than 11 persons were injured as a jackal, reportedly rabid, attacked them in Sianri village under Bhogarai block in Odisha’s Balasore district, a source said Wednesday.

All the 11 injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to the source, the jackal entered the village Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after, the canine chased and bit unsuspecting locals passing by the village road.

Jayant Kumar Patra, a villager, said that around 3pm the jackal suddenly appeared from nowhere and attacked a calf. Following that, it also targeted a woman near the village temple, in which she sustained serious injuries.

The source informed that the jackal also gnawed at nearly 15 cattle in the village.

Later, the villagers were able to catch the jackal.
