Nabarangpur: Cracking the whip on bootleggers, Koshagumuda police in Nabarangpur district Saturday seized 1,180 litres of country liquor at Dadia Majhiguda village. They arrested one person for running an illegal liquor trade.
The accused has been identified as Ashok Gupta, a resident of Dadia Majhiguda village.
The police were tipped off about the illegal liquor trade running from Ashok’s house and they had since been putting his house under scanner.
A team from Koshagumuda police station Saturday morning swooped down on the house and carried out a raid.
The police seized 3,200 bottles of country liquor and arrested Ashok after he failed to produce any documents to prove his innocence.
Police said the demand for liquor has increased during the ongoing lockdown and weekend shutdowns. Cashing in on the situation, Ashok had been supplying country liquor to nearby areas.
He was produced in a local court and was remanded to judicial custody as his bail plea was rejected.
A detailed probe is underway, it was learnt.
