Sambalpur: A dawn to dusk bandh called by the Rail Kriyanusthana Committee has thrown normal life out of gear in Bamra town of Sambalpur district Tuesday.
The bandh is being observed for halting of three express trains at the station here. Earlier, they said three trains used to have a stoppage at this station. But these express trains are no longer halting at this station which has given rise to dissatisfaction among the residents.
The 12-hour bandh paralyzed vehicular movement and railway service as the demonstrators staged demonstrations at important places in the town and a rail roko at the Bamra railway station. They were seen holding placards, sloganeering against the local administration.
They are demanding halting of Rajendra Nagar-Durg Express, Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Intercity Express, and Howrah-Ahmedabad Express at the station. This apart, they are also demanding construction of a railway overbridge due to issues relating to the level crossing.
It was learnt that the sub-collector, local SDPO, and Railway authorities had a meeting with the committee members Monday. The meeting yielded no outcome and as a result the committee resorted to bandh.
