Madhapur: Protesting against poor condition of education system at Madhapur under Athamallik block in Angul district, a 12-hour bandh was being observed by the residents here Friday.
Sikshya Banchao Kriyanusthan Committee and parents, under the leadership of advocate Anjan Kumar Pradhan, called the bandh in protest against the long-lying vacant posts of teachers at Madhapur High School.
The bandh disrupted normal life as vehicular movements came to a standstill. The school has been under lock and key since Monday. Vehicular movements came to a standstill following the bandh in this part of the district.
On the other hand, business establishments and shops also remained shut for the day.
The agitating parents said, the eight sanctioned assistant teachers, a head master, a clerk and two peons are not enough for the present strength of 395 students. On the top the school is presently being run by a headmaster, two science teachers, a Hindi teacher, a Sanskrit teacher, a PET and a female peon.
Tension ran high as none of the concerned officials visited the school till the last report came in. Angry villagers warned to continue the agitation until their demands were fulfilled.
