Bhubaneswar: Auto-rickshaw and taxi unions under the banner of All Odisha Taxi and Auto-rickshaw Federation, will observe a 12-hour statewide strike June 7 against app-based taxi services and seeking fulfillment of their various demands.
The Federation general secretary, Padman Samal, told this paper Saturday that around 12,000 taxis and 1.25lakh auto-rickshaws across state will go off the road June 7 for 12 hours from 6am to 6pm. Samal said the protest will be against the app-based services and various other demands of their federation and unions which the state government has failed to address.
“While facilities are being created for app-based taxi and auto services at railway stations and airport, we are not provided with parking space. Our rates haven’t been fixed and our demand for reduction of fuel price has been ignored. Besides, we don’t have any social security,” Samal said.
