12-hr auto stir today

Bhubaneswar: Quick on the heels of a strike call given by the All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners Association from June 18, the All Odisha Auto Chalaka Mahasangha Wednesday announced to observe a statewide 12-hour strike Thursday.
About 10 lakh auto drivers across the state will take part in the stir from 6 am to 6 pm. The strike has been called to protest the steep rise in fuel prices in the state. Auto drivers will stage dharnas across the state, said the general secretary of their union, Padman Kumar Samal. “The government should listen to the demands of auto drivers. There is a need to build new auto stands as the number of vehicles is increasing and the area is shrinking. We want a standard rate of charge to be fixed,” he said. Passenger services will be hit at many places in the state owing to the strike.
