Boudh: Normal life was severely affected in Boudh district during a 12-hour bandh called by the BJP Yuva Morcha over its three-point charter of demands, Monday.
Several activists of the saffron party were seen picketing in front of government offices since early morning and blocking roads by burning tyres.
One of their long standing demands has been recruitment of adequate staff nurse at the district hospital. The protesters have also opposed the decision to close paddy procurement centres as well as the delay in start of the Khurda-Bolangir rail work in Boudh district.
Vehicular movement came to a standstill during the bandh. Besides, shops, business establishments, educational institutions, courts and other government offices remained closed due to the bandh. However, emergency services were exempted from the shutdown.
The activists threatened that they would continue the protests for an indefinite period if their demands are not met at the earliest.
Meanwhile, adequate security measures have been taken by the district authorities to avoid any untoward incident and maintain law and order during the bandh. As per reports, the police took the district BJP Yuva Morcha president and two other activists into preventive custody.
