Koraput: Lift Irrigation Department officials visited the Nandapur block in Koraput district and decided to set up 12 lift irrigation points.
Acting on the order of Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy, the department’s Executive Engineer and the Assistant Executive Engineer visited Pantalung, Golur, Padua, Prajabadapada, Kulabir, Kularsingh, Bilaput and Atanda gram panchayats Saturday and Sunday and marked out land for the lift irrigation projects.
The team also identified 12 spots for the project. The team finalised three irrigation points at Pamuluput in Pantalung panchayat, one each at Subapali, Kusiput, Mariput and Jarai villages. These irrigation points will be connected to the Pedabalad River.
Similarly, three irrigation points each would be set up at Padeisingh, Gachangiaguda and Elaput in Golchar panchayat, and two lift irrigation points at Darlapur and Galganda in Padua gram panchayat.
The land identification process for the construction of a hospital, which will provide healthcare services to all the residents of the area, is also underway, Akash Nayak, a member of the Budi Anchal Sangh said.
The residents of this area would be shifted to Andhra Pradesh if the district administration takes immediate measures on their demands, warned the president of the association Somanath Khilo and secretary Lalit Tangur.
Around 5,000 residents of these eight gram panchayats had gheraoed the Collector’s office, and had staged a protest regarding non-fulfilment of their demands December 26, 2018.
Alleging that they were being neglected by the government the villagers had demanded resettlement with compensation, free electricity, health services, a college, safe drinking water, lift irrigation and a road.
