Bhubaneswar: Twelve new steel companies will soon be setting up establishments in Odisha, State Steel & Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik informed Monday in the Assembly. It means that fresh investments will come to the state. However, there was no mention of the time frame in which, these companies would be setting up their units.
Mallik while replying to a written query of BJD MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo gave this information about the new steel establishments. Out of the 12 new steel companies, three will be in Sundargarh district, two in Jajpur district while Angul, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Jagatsinghpur districts will each have one unit. Two of the companies that will set foot in Odisha are yet to decide on the district from which they will operate.
At present, there are 51 steel companies in the State with an annual production capacity of 33.12 million tonnes, Mallick said.
