121 vehicles seized for flouting traffic rules in twin city

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police claimed that a total of 121 vehicles were seized during a checking-and-blocking drive in the twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Saturday night. Addressing the media here Sunday, Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said the enforcement drive was carried out across 55 vulnerable points in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Of the 121 seizures, the police have booked 44 drivers on charges of drunken driving, the rest being charged for rash driving, wrong-side driving and using mobile phone while driving.

Meanwhile, officials of 24 police stations across the City took part in the drive, while being assisted by traffic cops. During the drive, the police commissioner said, “Bhubaneswar Traffic Police Station-I seized 32 vehicles, Bhubaneswar Traffic Police Station–II seized 22 vehicles and Cuttack Traffic Police Station seized 17 vehicles.

Similarly, five vehicles were seized by the cops on National Highway 16. The remaining 45 vehicles were seized under local police stations following interception.” Following the seizure, the police have filed cases against violators in the court, and requested the local RTOs for immediate cancellation of the driving licences. In order to release the vehicles, the violators will have to pay penalties in the court, said a senior cop.
