13-month-old infant beats COVID-19 in Malkangiri district

Korukonda: Even as COVID-19 outbreak is on the rise in Malkangiri, a 13-month-old boy Deepam Mandal who belongs to MV-45 village under Kalimela block in the district fought out COVID-19 Thursday.

According to reports, the baby had returned from Chennai along with his mother few days back. Both mother and son were put in a quarantine facility at MV-72 area. Later, their swabs tested COVID-19 positive and both were admitted to Malkangiri COVID-19 hospital.

Again, they were shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar and treated for further 11 days.

Notably, Deepam and his mother have tested COVID-19 negative after treatment. The baby boy has returned to his maternal uncle’s house at MV-37 of Taralakote panchayat under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district. He has been playing day long, as before.

On being contacted, the mother Gayatri Mandal said, “We should neither get scared of coronavirus infection, nor try to hide the disease. Rather, we should fight out the deadly disease with courage”.

In case of any symptoms being found, one should get oneself tested immediately. In every adverse situation, all should abide by the state government norms and maintain social distancing, she added.
