Chhatrapur/Jagatsinghpur: Ahead of the impending landfall of Cyclone Jawad, the Ganjam and Jagathsinghpur administrations have made multiple cyclone shelters ready for people who are to be evacuated.
According to reports, the Ganjam administration has sounded alerts for the officials in coastal and riparian areas where the cyclone is likely to make its impact. A total of 104 cyclone shelters have been prepared for people. The officials have been asked to ensure provision of electricity, drinking water and toilets in the cyclone shelters. The officials have been asked not to leave headquarters till further orders.
A 24X7 control room has been opened in Ganjam to coordinate the relief and rescue operations in the cyclone-hit areas.
Meanwhile, in Jagatsinghpur the administration has prepared 45 multi-purpose cyclone shelters, schools, Anganwadi centres and kalyan mandaps for accommodation of people who need to be evacuated.
Block officials have been asked to stock adequate relief material and medicines, flattened rice, molasses, fodder at each cyclone centre.
The low pressure area which has now turned into a depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. It is expected to make landfall somewhere in Puri district. However, the effects of Cyclone Jawad will be felt in many other coastal districts of Odisha.
