Bhanjanagar: Over 15 people were injured after a clash ensued between two groups of people of Chilikhama and Golabandha villages under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district Saturday night.

The injured villagers are undergoing treatment at Manitara and Buguda community health centres.

Sources said, Chilikhama villagers had been objecting to rainwater from Golabandha village entering into their farmlands. Friday, they were at the end of their patience as rainwater came flowing into their farmlands and damaged crops.

In a mark of protest, the villagers blocked a road to stop the flow of water. At this Golabandha villagers got infuriated.

Both the sides entered into a melee, pelting stones at each other. The clash eventually ended up with more than 15 people from both the sides suffering injuries.

The injured persons were rushed to Manitara and Buguda CHCs by their respective family members and neighbours. Their conditions were reported to be stable.

On being informed, Buguda police reached the spot and pacified the villagers. Further investigation is underway.
