New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at enhancing domestic coal production and ensuring energy security for the nation, the Ministry of Coal is all set to launch the 10th round of commercial coal block auction involving 60 mines, including 16 from Odisha, during an event in Hyderabad, June 21.
Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy will launch the auctions in the presence of MoS for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, the ministry said Wednesday. “The upcoming auction round includes 60 coal blocks, encompassing a diverse range of coking and non-coking coal mines. Strategically located across different states/regions, these blocks will support regional economic development and employment generation,” it said. Out of 60 coal mines, 24 are fully explored, while 36 are partially explored.
Additionally, five coal mines are being offered under the second attempt of round nine of commercial coal auctions. Apart from 16 in Odisha, other mines are spread over Bihar (three), Chhattisgarh (15), Jharkhand (six), Madhya Pradesh (15), Maharashtra (one), Telangana (one) and West Bengal (three).
