16-year-old girl’s open-heart-surgery at SCBMCH put on hold as Oxygen pipe bursts

Cuttack: Open heart surgery to be performed on a 16-year-old girl at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here has been halted following the Oxygen pipe of Cardiotherapy department’s ICU burst Monday night.

While it is yet to be ascertained why the pipe got burst, it has affected treatment to an extent. Critical patients from the Cardiotherapy department have been shifted to other wards and cardiac operations have been put on hold till restoration of the damaged pipe.

Meanwhile, the oxygen plant is learnt to have been closed.

Following the incident, relatives of many patients waiting for open heart surgeries  are a worried lot. One of them is the father of a 16-yaer-old girl. He urged the SCBMCH authorities to fix the problem as soon as possible as his daughter’s case is an urgent one.

Efforts are on to restore the damaged pipe, it was learnt.
