Digapahandi: Playing ‘kabaddi’ proved costly for 16 youths of various localities here in Ganjam district after they were booked Friday for breaking COVID-19 norms.

Informing about the case, Digapahandi IIC Basant Kumar Sethy said that on the basis of the FIR lodged by Digapahandi tehsildar-cum-executive magistrate Adwaita Kumar Swain, a case (Case No-166/20) has been registered against 16 youths for playing ‘kabaddi’, giving scant regards to COVID-19 norms.

Youths from various localities of Digapahandi area played ‘kabaddi’ at Athgadia Sahi chowk at about 10pm Monday on the occasion of Rakshi Purnima.

Someone clicked a photo of the game being played and sent to the district collector.

Ganjam being the worst COVID-19 affected district, the collector took it seriously and asked Digapahandi tehsildar Adwaita Kumar Swain to conduct an inquiry into it.

Digapahandi tehsildar Swain and Digapahandi NAC executive officer Prafulla Chandra Dakua visited the village and were confirmed of the fact that the game had indeed been played.

Tehsildar Swain said he had lodged the FIR as per the direction of Berhampur sub-collector.
