18 dengue cases reported from Kalahandi village

Bhawanipatna: Dengue has acquired alarming proportions in Kalahandi district with 18 people of Ladugaon village under Koksara block testing positive for the vector-borne disease.

A medical team has been visiting interior villages and collecting blood samples. Out of 94 blood samples collected Saturday, 18 villagers have tested positive for dengue.

So far, 24 persons in the district have tested dengue positive, a senior medical official said. Thirty more blood samples have been collected and sent for examination.

As per sources, six medical teams are visiting remote pockets and collecting blood samples on the direction of the District Collector. Steps are being taken to curb the rapid spread of the disease in interior parts.

“Our medical teams are travelling from village to village and checking on the health condition of the people. Till now, 24 persons have tested positive for dengue. However, the number of patients is likely to increase in the next five to six days. Adequate measures have been taken to contain the outbreak,” chief district medical officer Saroj Tihadi said.

Steps are being taken to tackle the situation. Health workers have been advised to spread awareness and provide sprays to check the spread of the disease. Moreover, locals have been asked to clean their nearby areas and avoid contamination of water in places near their houses.
