2 arrested in Daulatpur spurious liquor tragedy case

Tihidi: Two persons were Thursday arrested for their alleged involvement in infamous hooch tragedy at Daulatpur panchayat under this police limits in Bhadrak district which has so far claimed 10 lives.

The accused have been identified as Dinabandhu Barik and Padmanabha Barik of Daultapur village.

Acting on a compliant of villager Subrat Kumar Nayak, police registered a case (Case No-181/19) and arrested the accused. They were produced in a local court Thursday and remanded to police custody.

Notably, a group of men had organised a party April 29 after end of the fourth phase of polls in Odisha where they had consumed liquor in substantial quantity. Later, most of them fell ill and were admitted to various hospitals.

So far 10 people have died with the latest being Indramani Das of Sapakatia village who succumbed at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack Wednesday morning. Over 60 others are still being treated.
