Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Tuesday arrested two Congress activists on charges of damaging National Highway Authority of India’s (NHAI) properties worth lakhs of rupees during a protest in the office Monday against the recent waterlogging in front of ISKCON temple at Nayapalli.
The arrested were identified as Manoj Kumar Sahoo and Mihir Acharya of Nayapalli area. Police registered a case (No. 278) under sections 452, 427,326, 294, 506, 353 of the IPC.
Sishu Ranjan, Executive Engineer and Manager of NHAI at Setu Bhawan, lodged a complaint with Nayapalli police in this regard.
The NHAI authorities have alleged that the Congress party activists assaulted the employees at the office during the protest. Several computer systems and electrical equipment in the office were damaged due to spraying of water into the office.
Around hundred Congress workers including senior leaders like Sura Routray gheraoed the Nayapalli police station demanding immediate release of the arrested activists.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Tuesday asked the NHAI authorities to take up short-term and long-term measures to prevent waterlogging in front of ISKCON temple.
