2 dead, 3 critical in separate road mishaps

Koraput: Two persons lost their lives and three others sustained critical injuries in two separate road mishaps that took place here in the town Saturday and Friday.

According to sources, Brundaban Kuldip, 35, a resident of Adamanda Malkangiri village under Dasmanthpur block in the district was crossing National Highway-26 at Dumuriput while a speeding motorcycle hit him and he sustained critical injuries.

Soon Brundaban was rushed to Koraput medical. Later, he was about to be shifted to Visakhapatnam when he breathed his last.

Later, the kin of the victim along with villagers blocked NH at Koraput Traffic Square by placing the body and demanded compensation. On being informed, Koraput Tehsildar Neheru Majhi reached the spot and held discussions with irate villagers.  Following the road blockade, the vehicular movement on Jeypore – Visakhapatnam highway was interrupted for two hours.

On the other hand, the police registered a case in this regard and arrested motorcycle rider Bhagaban Majhi, said IIC Khireswar Sahoo.

In another indecent, one person, identified as Dhana Harijan died on the spot while three others including a woman sustained grave injuries in a head-on collision between two motorcycles at Bhabaninagar on NH-26 Friday night.

The injured were rushed to Koraput hospital and later shifted to Visakhapatnam as their condition didn’t improve. Two separate cases have been registered with the police and inquiries in these connections are on.
