2 dead, five critical as bus carrying marriage party hits truck

Koraput: In a tragic road mishap that took place Wednesday morning, as many as two persons were killed and several others sustained grievous injuries after a bus carrying marriage party had head-on collision with a truck on NH-26 near Devighat in Koraput district.

According to an eyewitness, the ill-fated private bus was on its way from Jeypore to R Udayagiri when the accident occurred. The injured were rescued by locals and admitted to hospital for treatment.

Around 40 persons belonging to a marriage party were travelling in the bus named ‘Annapurna’. The bus skidded off the road and overturned following the accident while front side of the truck was damaged.

“Health conditions of at least five passengers who were travelling in the bus are critical now,” a doctor treating them in Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput said.

On being informed, SDPO Manoj Pujari along with Koraput and Kolab police personnel reached the spot. Identities of the two deceased persons have not been ascertained yet, the senior official stated.

Police have registered a case in this connection and launched detailed a probe. Bodies have been sent to nearby hospital for post-mortem.
