Boinda: Fire broke out at Guja Pahad and Ananadamunda forests under Handapa range in Angul district Saturday. The blaze is spreading in these forests while the forest department has allegedly not taken up steps to douse the fire, a report said.
The report said, as the fire spreads, scores of trees and plants have reduced to ashes. Villagers were worried about the protection of valuable trees like mahula.
There are a large number of mahul trees in two forests, which need to be saved from the fires, said villagers.
They also alleged that some cowherds, who collect mahul flowers, set the forest afire.
On the other hand, forest fire had added to the atmospheric temperatures. Villagers demanded that immediate steps should be taken to extinguish the blaze,
Handapa ranger Chaitanaya Behera said that the department is taking step in this direction.
