2 former prisoners test positive for COVID-19 in Puri, raise scare in police stations

Puri: Of the 18 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Puri district in the last 24 hours, two are robbers who were lodged at Kanas and Gadisagada police stations in the district.

While one of them was a vehicle thief arrested by Kanas police about four days ago, the other was a looter arrested by Gadisagada police officials.

After swab samples of the two came positive, 23 staff of the two police stations have been asked to remain under quarantine it was learnt.

Sources said that 12 staffers, including the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Gadisagada police station have been asked to remain in quarantine. Similarly, 10 staff members of Kanas police station were sent to institutional quarantine while its IIC will be under home isolation.

Earlier in May, an inmate of Puri jail had tested positive for the virus.

Currently, Puri district has a total of 188 positive cases, including 85 active cases.
