Nabarangpur: Adjudicating a 2013 case of a minor girl’s kidnap and rape, additional district judge, Benudhar Patra, Wednesday awarded jail term to two persons after convicting them of the crime.
Babula Khandapan of Bijraguda village would serve 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a penalty of Rs 5,000. He would serve a jail term of additional three months if fails to pay the fine.
Another convict Goutam Bagha of Kurmakote village would serve two years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a penalty of Rs 5,000. He would spend two more months in jail in case of non-realisation of the amount, the judge said in his verdict.
According to the case diary, Babula and Gautam forcibly picked up the girl from an area under Dabugaon police limits November 8, 2013. Babula raped the girl in his village and later dropped the victim at her village.
The girl’s family lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered. The matter was sub-judice.
The judge pronounced the verdict on the basis of the statements recorded by 17 witnesses in the case, additional public prosecutor Sachinanda Swain, who was pleading the case on behalf of the government, said.
