Bargarh, July 1: An incident of trafficking of a girl from Nileswar village, located on the outskirts of the town, on the pretext of marriage to Madhya Pradesh has sent shockwave among western Orissa residents. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Bargarh Town police rescued the 18-year-old girl from Jharsuguda railway station Tuesday night and arrested two persons in this connection. They were identified as Banamali Bhoi (30) and Amin Sahu (37) of Majhipali village. According to police, the two accused were known to the girl’s father. They frequently visited her house and promised her father to get a marriage proposal for his daughter from Jharsuguda.
The accused told the girl’s father to let them take his daughter to Jharsuguda with them for marriage, who allowed their request. The two accused then took the girl to Jharsuguda, where they planned to take her to Durganagar in Madhya Pradesh.
However, the girl learnt about their plan to sell her and informed her father over phone, who contacted Town police requesting them to rescue his daughter. Town police swinging into action rescued the girl from Jharsuguda Railway station and arrested the duo. The accused dismissed the allegations of human trafficking. “We were taking the girl to Madhya Pradesh with consent of her parents. Her father has also taken Rs 12,000 from us,” said Amin.
However, the girl’s father refuted Amin’s claim. The two accused were later produced in the court and sent to sub-jail here after their bail application was rejected.
