Kendrapara/Bhadrak: At least two persons were killed while three others have been left with severe injuries in separate road mishaps in the state on the wee hours of Monday.
In the first incident reported from Kendrapara, a person died and three others sustained critical injuries after a pickup van they were travelling was hit by a truck on National Highway-5 near Tikarpanga Chhak under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district early this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Golak Mohanty of Tikarpanga.
The incident took place when the four persons on a TATA Magic were on their way to work in Paradip. The injured trio was first rushed to Marshaghai community health centre (CHC) and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here after their condition worsened.
Later, irate locals later staged a road blockade by burning tyres demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Later, police reached the spot and began an inquiry.
In a separate incident, a worker died in a road mishap in front of the Dhamara port gate today. According to sources, Kartik Bhuiyan of Balabhadraprasad area was returning home last night when an unidentified vehicle hit him resulting in his death on the spot.
Angry over this, locals blocked Dhamara-Basudevpur road near Balabhadrapur Chhak demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.
