2 minor boys drown in pond

Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, two minor boys drowned in a pond while taking bath at Sahadasingiri village under Balikuda police limits in Jagatsinghpur district Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Omm Biswal (9) and Raju Rout (10).

The duo met watery grave around 9 AM as they slipped into deep water while taking bath in the pond before going to school. Hearing their screams for help, some youths of the village jumped into the pond and fished the two out.

They were rushed to the district headquarters hospital, where doctor declared them dead.

The incident spread a pall of gloom in the area. A day back, two sisters had met with the same fate in Keonjhar.

Similarly, the fire tender team Wednesday recovered the body of an elderly man who had drowned in a pond at Baripadar village under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district.

He was identified as Sujaku Santa.

Sources said, the elderly man had gone to take bath in the pond but did not return home. Family members searched for him but only found his towel near the pond. After hours of search, his body was fished out from the pond.

Police reached the spot and launched a probe.

On the other hand, a youth drowned in a pond at Hanumantapur village under Khaira block in Balasore district. He was identified as Kailash Swain. Family members said, Swain had gone out of his house after dinner Tuesday night.

Family members grew apprehensive after he did not return home. Later, his body was found floating in the pond. The body was seized and sent for autopsy.

A case of unnatural death was registered and a probe was launched in this connection.
