Aska: Two notorious criminals were arrested after sustaining bullet injuries in police firing near Pallimal under Aska police limits in Ganjam district Monday.
The two have been identified as Sunil Jena and Krushna Jena, both brothers. The two are currently undergoing treatment at Aska hospital under police custody.
According to police, the two brothers are involved in many criminal activities. A special team was formed to trace the whereabouts of them.
Acting on a tip-off about the movement of the duo in the area, the special team chased them and tried to intercept. However, the duo opened fire on the cops. In retaliation, the police opened fire injuring the duo.
The cops nabbed them after the siblings fell from the motorcycle. The raid also seized two country-made pistols, five live bullets, a motorcycle, and Rs 17,500 from their possession.
According to sources, the accused siblings were involved in the murder of a local BJD leader Sadanand Lenka December 31 last year.
Sadanand, the elder brother of Kharia Panchayat Sarpanch Arabinda Lenka, was shot dead near College Square at Aska bu bike-borne miscreants. Since then, Aska police was on a hunt to nab the criminal siblings for their suspected involvement.
