Puri: Two students of a private architecture college in Cuttack drowned in the sea here while taking bath Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rajat Pandey, 23, of Jamshedpur and Md Ibadtullah, 22, of Delhi. “Two separate cases of unnatural deaths have been registered and the bodies have been sent for autopsy,” a Beach police official said, adding that their family members have been informed in the regard.
According to sources, Pandey and Ibadtullah along with four of their college mates had come to the beach early Sunday. “While bathing in the sea near Hotel Mayfair, Pandey was swept away while Ibadtullah drowned in an attempt to save Pandey,” said one of the friends. Meanwhile, on hearing the alarm for help, private lifeguards rescued the duo and rushed them to the district headquarters hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead.

Barang: A 12-year-old boy drowned while bathing in Kuakhai River here Sunday. The deceased was identified as Subrat Pradhan of Belgachhia area under the police limits. According to sources, Pradhan went to the river Sunday morning along with his father and sister. He lost his balance and slipped while bathing. His sister screamed for help when she saw him drowning. Some locals who were passing by conducted a search but were unable to locate him. On being alerted, Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force and fire fighting personnel reached the spot and recovered the body. Barang police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
