Rayagada, May 27: In yet another incident of alleged medical negligence, a two-year-old boy died Wednesday here at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) as the on-duty doctor refused to attend to the baby who was put on oxygen and battling for his life.

The poor family members were seen crying on the hospital verandah to register their protest against the ‘cruelty’ of the doctor. The other doctors and hospital staff didn’t show any concern about the death which shocked many at the hospital premises.

According to reports, Birendra (2), son of Puruna and Mamata Pedenti of Angur village under this block was suffering from fever and other illnesses for some days. The parents Tuesday got him examined by a doctor at the DHH and returned home after taking the prescribed medicines. However, the baby’s condition worsened and the worried parents brought him to the hospital again Wednesday.

They pleaded before a doctor present at the hospital to look into the condition of their son. But the doctor straightway refused to administer treatment to the ailing boy. However a nurse of the hospital put the baby on oxygen support seeing him having trouble in breathing.

The couple again urged the physician to attend to the dying baby but in vain. The baby was in extreme pain and died after battling for life sans any medical treatment. The inconsolable couple alleged that the doctor left the place after their son’s death without saying a word.
The doctor didn’t attend to their son as they are poor, the wailing couple was seen saying to the other patients and their attendants. Incidentally, the parents of the boy don’t know the name of the doctor. The other staffers of the hospital also refused to disclose it.
