Begunia/Bolgarh: A 22-year-old youth was hacked to death allegedly by his cousin over suspected family dispute at Deuli Nuasahi village under Bolgarh block here Monday.
Begunia police said they have recovered the mutilated body of Chinmaya Sahu before sending it to Khurda district headquarters hospital (DHH) for an autopsy. “On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, a case (25/19) has been registered under relevant Sections of the IPC including 302 (murder),” Begunia inspector in-charge (IIC) Rashmiranjan Sahu said, adding that two teams of police are at their wits’ end in tracking down the culprit who is on the run.
According to the case details, Chinmaya had gone to the nearby market in the afternoon when the incident happened. “Chinmaya’s cousin Niranjan (40) hacked the former with a sharp-edged weapon in the market before fleeing the spot,” a senior official of Begunia police said referring the police complaint.
A profusely bleeding Chinmaya was rushed to the DHH where doctors declared him ‘dead on arrival’, Sahu added.
According to the victim’s mother, the incident is fallout of past rivalry between the two families. “Although Niranjan had some issues with my son around three years ago, it was settled. However, on several occasions he (Niranjan) used to threaten my son. I can’t believe my son is no more,” Chinmaya’s mother rued as tears rolled down her cheeks. Chinmaya was supposed to tie the knot after three days, she added.
