24 out of 30 districts in Odisha running out of vaccines, says P Chidambaram

New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram Tuesday alleged that the government assertion of vaccinating the entire adult population by December 31 was an ‘empty boast’ as several states have flagged vaccine shortage.

Chidambaram claimed 24 out of 30 districts in Odisha are running out of vaccines and questioned the government’s assertion of adequate vaccine supply.

“Odisha is governed by the BJD, an ally of the BJP. What has the central government that dismissed complaints of vaccine shortage got to say now,’ Chidambaram asked.

“Vaccine shortage is a fact. Vaccine production is exaggerated. Vaccine import is a mystery. Vaccinating the entire adult population by December 2021 is an empty boast,” Chidambaram tweeted in Hindi.

He asked the new Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to tell the people how he plans to ensure a regular, adequate, and uninterrupted supply of vaccines to the States as Delhi and Odisha are facing a shortage of vaccine doses.

As per the official data, so far 5.5 per cent of the total population have received both the doses of the vaccine while 22.4 per cent one dose.
