26 new cases of COVID-19 in Odisha, tally rises to 245

Bhubaneswar: Twenty six new positive coronavirus cases were reported Friday morning in Odisha. This took the tally to 245 in the state and the number of active cases to 181.

So far 62 persons have recovered while two have fallen victim to the dreaded disease.

Jajpur district tops the list with 55 positive cases of COVID-19 followed by Ganjam at 47. Balasore district have so far reported 27 positive coronavirus cases.

Among the 26 new coronavirus positive cases detected Friday, 19 are from Ganjam district, five from Kendrapara while two are from Bhadrak. All are returnees from Surat and symptomatic. All who have tested positive are males. Proper treatment procedure has started and contact tracing of persons these people came in contact with are on.

Meanwhile the district administrations of Kendrapara and Bhadrak provided the latest updates about the patients.

The two cases from Bhadrak district are residents of Dhamnagar and Basudevpur municipalities. They were under quarantine after returning from Surat.

Bhadrak District Collector Gyana Das gave the details on the microblogging site Twitter.

“One positive case each from Dhamnagar block and Basudevpur municipality. Both recently returned from Gujarat and are at Institutional Quarantine Centre since arrival in Bhadrak,” he tweeted. The total number of infected people in the district rose to 23 with the addition of the two new cases.

The five positive COVID-19 cases detected in Kendrapara belong to Mahakalpara, Pattamundai and Marshaghai panchayats informed District Collector Samarth Verma.

They had all returned from Surat May 5. They were staying under quarantine in their respective panchayats. All of them have now been admitted to the COVID-19 ward of Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack.
