Berhampur: Three persons, including two women, were arrested Friday from Khalingi village in Ganjam district on human trafficking charges, police said.
The accused persons were allegedly trying to lure young girls of the village Thursday to work for a person in Bhubaneswar with high remuneration for a short period, the police said.
Though they were yet to get any girl, some local youths suspected evil design and detained them and informed the police. Police rushed to the spot and detained the trio for investigation.
“During the investigation, we came to know the accused persons were trying to traffic the girls with an evil motive,” said IIC of Patapur police station, Ramesh Chandra Pradhan.
Police said the accused claimed that they were looking for girls to work for a man in Bhubaneswar and also gave a name, but police could not find any such person, he said.
A case was registered against the three on the basis of an FIR lodged by a villager and representative of the local sarpanch, the IIC said.
