Rourkela/Nayagarh: Three persons died and many were injured in separate road mishaps in Sundargarh and Nayagarh districts, Tuesday.
Three of a family were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after a SUV hit them while they were standing at Telanadihi in Lephripara area of Sundargarh district.
The victims were residents of Kurei under Balisankara block who had gone to attend a family function. The injured were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital. The SUV driver fled the spot after the mishap.
Ten passengers suffered injuries after a private bus they were aboard overturned near Bondamunda. The bus, carrying 50 passengers, was heading to Jareikela from Rourkela when the driver lost control over the vehicle which overturned at Bondamunda. The locals rescued the injured and sent them to hospital. Later, police launched a probe into the matter.
The actual cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. But it is suspected that the mishap occurred due to rash driving.
Similarly, 10 persons were injured, four of them critically, in a bus accident near Takara under Dasapalla block of Nayagarh district. The Puri-bound bus carrying 70 passengers which was travelling from Bolangir rammed two road side cabins.
In another incident, 200 chickens were killed after a poultry-laden truck overturned near Kendughati under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district. The mishap occurred when the mini-truck carrying 900 chickens was heading for Gunupur in Rayagada from Berhampur.
The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels following which the vehicle overturned. The truck driver sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
