3 gangsters killed in shootout in Delhi court

Rohini court

New Delhi: Three gangsters were killed in a shootout at a court in the national capital. One of the deceased gangsters has been identified as Jitender Gogi. He was allegedly shot dead by a rival gang right inside the court complex at Rohini, north Delhi.  In retaliatory police firing, by the police two members of the rival gang were also killed. A number of other persons have allegedly also been injured. Police are trying to ascertain the identities of those injured.

The shootout has raised serious questions about security in what should be a heavily protected and sanitised zone. In videos, gunshots are heard in court and policemen and lawyers are seen in scrambling for safety in the building at Rohini in north Delhi.

A video of the incident was shared by Live Law on Twitter.

Two gunmen dressed as lawyers shot Jitendra Gogi thrice from close range. He died on the spot. Special force personnel escorting the gangster then retaliated and fired back, killing both the gunmen on the spot.

Gogi is a notorious gangster involved in several criminal cases. He has been jailed at the Tihar prison since last year. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. But it was clear that he had breathed his last even before he reached the hospital.

Police said a rival group called the ‘Tillu Gang’, had plotted to kill him. They were waiting for Gogi when he arrived for the hearing.  “Two from rival gang opened fire at Jitender Gogi inside the court. That when police retaliated and killed those two assailants,” Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana was quoted as saying by ‘NDTV’. “The police acted swiftly and killed both the assailants. Total three dead, including Gogi,” said Mr Asthana.

A lawyer, Lalit Kumar, said: “The judge was in court, lawyers were present and Jitender Gogi was there. These two lawyers (who turned out to be shooters dressed as lawyers) walked in and started shooting. An intern was also shot.”
